Community Build Update: Parts Are In, Math Is Done, Momentum Is Real
The LS 6.2 Community Build is officially moving from planning to precision.
All components for the short-block are now in house, inspected, and accounted for — and that’s when the real work begins.
At Owens Racing Engines, we don’t rush builds. We measure, calculate, verify, and document every step — and this community build is no exception.
Bob Weights Calculated & Ready for Balancing
With the rotating assembly finalized, Chris has calculated the bob weights required to properly balance the crankshaft for this exact combination.
That calculation isn’t a guess — and it isn’t a shortcut.
It’s based on:
-
The exact components being used
-
Their individual weights
-
The intended balance configuration
This ensures the crankshaft is balanced for this engine, not for a generic setup.
While we don’t publish specific bob-weight numbers, every calculation and result is fully documented and becomes part of the permanent build record.
Why This Matters (Even If You’re Just Following Along)
Balancing is one of the most critical steps in a short-block build. It directly impacts:
- Smoothness
- Longevity
- Reliability
- Bearing life
- Overall engine integrity
This is why the final sponsor won’t just receive a short-block — they’ll receive a proper foundation for a complete engine build.

A Quarter of the Sponsorship Squares Are Already Filled
We’re excited to share that 25% of the Community Sponsorship Squares are already spoken for.
That tells us a lot.
People are watching.
People are learning.
And people want to be part of something real.
This isn’t hype or a highlight reel — it’s a professional LS 6.2 short-block build unfolding in real time, documented step by step, exactly the way engines are built in our shop every day.
The momentum is building — both in the shop and within the community supporting this project.
What the Final Sponsor Takes Home
The sponsor selected to receive the LS 6.2 short-block will take delivery of:
✔️ A meticulously machined LS 6.2 block
✔️ A professionally assembled short-block
✔️ A complete build sheet documenting all critical measurements and specs
✔️ A rock-solid foundation ready to become a finished engine
This is the same level of care and documentation our paying engine customers receive — because this is a real engine build.
